2. which airport do I take?
Budapest is Hungary’s international airport. Debrecen and Kosice are the smaller airports that you can fly to.
How to Get To Tokaj:
By car, it is about 2.5 hours from Budapest and approximately an hour from Kosice or Debrecen.
Trains travel to Tokaj from the Budapest Keleti-Railway Station and Debrecen, where you can connect to international airports. If you use Kosice’s airport, you can take a train to Tokaj via Miskolc.
Rest assured, all airports provide car rental services and taxis. If you are open to chatting with locals, choose car-sharing services like Bla-Bla Car or its Hungarian version, Oszkar.com.
We highly recommend our participants consider collective travel, such as taking the train together to Tokaj on the 7th of May and returning to Budapest on the 10th of May. If we receive enough requests for this, we will be more than happy to organize it. So, let us know about your plans and if you’d like to use it. The train departure time for the WIWE event will be communicated a few weeks before the event.
UPDATE:
If you have registered for the WIWE and you want to take the train from Budapest Keleti, do let us know as we have a list of names of women who will travel by train: send an email to info@houseofredandwhite.com.
3. accommodation IN tokaj
We have rented an entire wine castle exclusively for our fifth anniversary celebration!
The enchanting Gróf Degenfeld, originally built as a wine school, will be exclusively reserved for WIWE attendees from May 7 to 9. Please note that the number of rooms is limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Each room is spacious and comfortable, accommodating two guests. Once you’ve registered for the conference, email us at info@houseofredandwhite.com to reserve your room.
In addition to Gróf Degenfeld, we have a deal with Andrassy Hotel, which is ten minutes away from the castle.
There are also many other hotels, apartments, and Airbnbs in Tokaj. Our recommendations of guesthouses owned by women winemakers:
Tokaj Nobilis
Tokaj Nobilis is owned by Sarolta Bárdos who will be also one of the wineries we will visit on Thursday 8th of May
ZSIRAI PINCESZET
Zsirai Winery is owned by the two sisters who will be speaking at WIWE.
If you have any specific questions about your WIWE accommodation, feel free to email us.

5. DO I NEED A VISA?
That depends on where you come from. Please check your own governments website if you need a visa to Hungary. Or you check out this portal of the Hungarian government.
6. What time does the Women in wine Expo start and end?
The Women in Wine Expo begins on Wednesday, May 7th, at 7 PM with a meet and greet. We invite all attendees to bring a bottle of wine from their country, as we plan to have a table filled with international wines. We will provide welcoming bubbles and a light dinner.

packing your suitcase
traveling to tokaj, hungary
If you're traveling to Hungary and Tokaj for the first time, you may have some questions about what to pack. Here’s a helpful list to guide you.
Tokaj is a beautiful region in Hungary, known for its wines and stunning landscapes. Spring is one of the best times to visit, although rain can be common. Plan your trip to coincide with the Women in Wine Expo and enjoy this charming destination. In spring, the Tokaj countryside comes alive. The vineyards become lush and green, and the weather is mild and pleasant. This season is perfect for outdoor activities like hiking and cycling, allowing you to take in the breathtaking scenery. With fewer tourists around, you can enjoy a more personal experience as you explore, meditate, and savor delicious meals.
Our program is diverse, so we encourage you to dress comfortably and casually. Here’s a list of what to pack:
- Comfortable Clothing: Choose breathable fabrics like cotton or linen, and bring a light jacket for cooler evenings. And one dress (who doesn't need ironing) and elegant shoes for the dinner.
- Walking Shoes: Pack comfortable shoes for walking around the vineyards. If you have space, consider bringing Wellington boots for muddy paths—those who attended the WIWE in the UK should definitely bring their stylish wellies!
- Rain Gear: Due to the unpredictable spring weather, make sure to pack a raincoat, a waterproof jacket, and an umbrella.
- Reusable Water Bottle: Bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated throughout your trip.
- Meditation Essentials: While we will provide a solution for the meditation sessions, feel free to bring a travel mat if you have extra space in your luggage.
And don’t forget to bring your international power adapter. The standard voltage in Hungary is 230V. We look forward to seeing you soon at the Women in Wine Expo in Tokaj!
